Benzodiazepine Detox Center in Los Angeles
Safe and Effective Detox Programs for Benzodiazepine Withdrawal
Benzodiazepines are categorized as CNS (central nervous system) depressants. They are popularly referred to as “benzos.” These are prescription pills administered by skilled practitioners to ease the painful symptoms associated with seizures, insomnia, anxiety, and panic disorders.
Benzodiazepines have become one of the highly abused drugs for recreational purposes due to their mind-altering properties. The withdrawal symptoms of benzos are immensely painful and alarmingly life-threatening. Most often, benzo withdrawal symptoms are worse than those of opiates.
Benzo withdrawal symptoms can include seizures and even heart or brain failure. For this reason, New Spirit Recovery strongly recommends undergoing benzodiazepine detox only under skilled medical supervision.
If you are struggling with addiction, please seek help from our benzodiazepine detox center in Los Angeles. Our credentialed specialists and skilled medical counselors are here to ensure your detox journey is comfortable, convenient, and safe. Time and again, it has been proven that the greater the comfort level of the detox patient, the greater the chances of getting clean.

The Growing Concern of Benzodiazepine Use and the Risks of Dependence and Overdose
Millions commonly consume benzodiazepines as prescription pills for pain relief, and not every Benzo user can be labeled as an addict. Nevertheless, like all prescription medications, benzo users who consume prescription pills are also highly likely to develop a tolerance that leads to physical dependence.
There has been a rising concern over the use of benzos as prescription pills. Statistics prove that from 1996 to 2013, the number of benzo users as prescription medications increased by 67%. From 8.1 million consumers in 1996, it had inflated to 13.5 million users by 2013.
Another alarming observation is that between 2001 and 2013, the rates of co-prescribing benzodiazepines and opioids have almost doubled. With the ever-increasing prescriptions, the risk of overdose has increased by 400℅ when benzos are mixed with substances like alcohol or opiates.
Benzodiazepine Withdrawal Symptoms
The severity and duration of withdrawal symptoms while detoxing from benzodiazepine may be different from person to person and depend on various factors, including:
- The length of usage (i.e., short-term or long-term use of benzos); and
- Whether the person has been taking long-acting or short-acting benzos.
For example, someone who uses benzos recreationally for years on end will have more severe withdrawal symptoms than someone who has used them for a shorter term – for instance, three months.
Also, the withdrawal symptoms for short-acting benzos tend to be quicker and more intense than for long-acting benzos. In the case of the former, withdrawal symptoms can start within hours of the user's last use, and as for the latter, it can take more than 24 hours.
Common benzo withdrawal symptoms include:
- Anxiety
- Mild sweats
- Intense drug cravings
- Crawling skin
- Muscle spasms
- Restlessness
- Irrational thoughts
Eventually, along with these symptoms, there can also be goosebumps and cold sweats, diarrhea and vomiting, watering eyes and headaches, abdominal, muscle, and joint pain, heightened restlessness, and anxiety. In some instances, the symptoms can prove fatal, too. Hence, detoxing without skilled medical assistance can increase the chances of failure or relapse or, in some cases, death.
